CAPITAL PUNISHMENT FOR CHILD SEX ABUSE MAKES A GREAT POINT, BUT ISN’T THE ANSWER.

It’s great that legislators are finally moving back towards recognizing that young child abuse at least equates to murder. But, it’s not enough. And Capital Punishment isn’t the solution. Again, the NY Times article deals with the pros and cons of it.

While great as a symbol of the seriousness of child sex abuse, the victims I know would rather see their abusers raped without the benefit of lubricants and live in a hellish prison rather than escape it by a relatively quick and painless death in comparison. Don’t their abusers deserve at least the same as they dealt out?, Even if it’s not so painless a method of capital punishment?

I don’t really want to get into the arguments of capital punishment, but I can say that people don’t realize how bad prison is. And if they were aware of that, not so afraid of death, and not so angry and grief stricken, most families of capital crime victims would opt for life imprison rather than capital punishment.

The only other aspect, is that IF there were a mistake, and later absolute evidence turned up that the person hadn't committed the crime they were convicted of, which happens too many times when you're talking about such a thing as irreversibly killing someone, then justice can prevail. With capital punishment, not only does a real guilty criminal get off too fast and easy, it makes a permanent serious mistake to those who do exist, who are innocent.
